Die Jungfraubahn AG (JB) und die Gornergrat Bahn AG (GGB) beabsichtigen, die bestehenden Triebfahrzeuge im Güter- und Dienstverkehr altersbedingt zu ersetzen. Aufgrund der vergleichbaren betrieblichen Rahmenbedingungen sowie der ähnlichen Einsatzprofile der Fahrzeuge wird die Ersatzbeschaffung der vierachsigen Zweikraftlokomotiven in Form eines gemeinsamen Beschaffungsprojekts durchgeführt.
